26 April 2004 - No More Cakes! (For now...)

Ohhhhh....I'm feeling rather under the weather today, so I am going to have to keep this entry short. I think I managed to develop some sort of head cold yesterday; along with a fever and aching muscles. I will hopefully feel much better later, as I plan to do some cooking this evening...we'll see.

On Friday when I told my parents I was going to bring a cake (specifically the Freckled Mocha Cake Deb baked for her addition to the IMBB? Cake Walk last Sunday) for dessert on Saturday I received a mixed response. My father's eyes lit up and he said (with a big grin on his face) "oh, boy...sounds good to me!"...my mother kind of rolled her eyes and said "oh, no..not another cake" and held her stomach.

I didn't take this as an insult, (and Deb, don't you take it as one, either!) as my mom is a strong supporter of my recent cooking and baking forays. I think I just realized that too much cake can indeed be too much for some people. My brother David as well, who loved the cake last weekend said something different from a cake might be a nice switch-up.

Since I had seen Anna Olson make a Banoffee Pie on her show about a month ago I have wanted to try out the recipe. Supposedly it is a traditional Irish and/or British dessert, and since I hadn't done a tart since sometime in February, I thought this one might be a good one to try. And, since I had bought those cute little mini tart pans for myself for my birthday I figured I would make six, four-inch tarts rather than one, ten-inch tart.
