22.august: IMBB? 7 "my cute dumplings"

Well, it's about time!!! Yes, I know everyone was getting a little anxious, wondering when it was going to come along -- that fun-filled monthly event everyone loves so much here in food-blogger land. The Is My Blog Burning? (IMBB?) culinary extravaganza.

In case you still happen to be new to this monthly "party", IMBB? is a world-wide internet cooking and baking experience, originally instigated by the brilliant Alberto in February of this year, with the opening festivity’s VIG (very important gastronomy) being Soup. The second event rolled out a month later with Clotilde’s Tartine edition, Renee hosted a spring-inspired Cake Walk in April, May bore witness to Pim's gracious hosting of a Rice Party and June brought about Wena's fish dish. Last month we all cracked our culinary knuckles and delved deep into our love of that favourite summer cooking method for Too Many Chefs Griller's Delight. This month we are all going to get cute and cuddly with Food Porn Watch and Life in Flow's Jarrett "You're just the Cutest Little Dumpling" dumpling-making, fun-time, all-encompassing burlesque show.

Dumplings are a fun and rather fanciful treat that can easily meld with just about any style of meal, any course of that meal and at any time of day. They can be great appetizers, wonderful side-dishes, a light but filling and delicious main course or even a dessert! Versatile? Yes, I do indeed think so.

As a child I made dumplings with my mom; I remember making egg rolls, cannelloni, pot stickers, turn-overs and even some really scrumptious fruit dumplings. My mom had seemingly endless amounts of time when I was young to cook and to show me how to cook -- time I don't think either of us has lately, unfortunately. I learned a great deal about technique from her, even though you wouldn't think a ten year-old would be great at retaining such information...I must have since I managed to pull of making some really great Thai-Inspired Dumplings for S. and I to accompany our dinner last night. And just so you know, they passed the ultimate "is-this-good-Asian-food" test (in my books anyway) this morning: eaten, cold, right out of the container from the fridge...a little too good; I have to stop eating them!. Yum.
