11.february: shf #5 - layers and layers

It's Sugar High Friday once more! I know, it's actually difficult to believe it has come around again so quickly, but yes, it's time to get yourself all giddy and shaky on a lovely sugar high. This month Clement of a la cuisine! is hosting the party and has asked everyone to make something with puff pastry. I can hardly wait to read the round-up this weekend of all the flaky, delectable desserts everyone has made!

There are so many recipes out there for puff pastry - if you indeed want to make your own from scratch. To name just a few: Martha has an easy one, Christine has a rather good one, and Julia will even show you how to make it, if you so desire. Of course every chef has their own recipe, method and outcome...figure out yours and then puff, puff, puff away!

There are also a few different varieties of store-bought, pre-made puff pastry for those of us who sometimes just do not have the time or patience to make it ourselves. I have made it a few times (Martha's quick recipe is quite easy) and although it is a bit time-consuming it is far from difficult.

This time around, although my original intention was to make it at home I ran out of time to do that. With all the house-hunting and house cleaning and work and writing and cooking and um...playing SIMS lately on the XBOX, I just couldn't spare a block of at least three or four hours to make it. Cudos to those of you who did! I know for sure that Clement made his own and I can't wait to see how it turned out.

BUT: to my own credit I made two desserts this time around (I know, I'm not the first and certainly will not be the last person to do more than one recipe for SHF)...two realtively simple but utterly scrumptious desserts that both turned out fantastically, I might add. The chocolate turnovers and cinnamon-sugar palmiers are the perfect dessert after a filling Valentine's Day meal, although I'm sure they won't last until dessert on Monday! Light, airy and with all those gorgeous, delicate pastry layers, how can they not be scrumptious?
