2005-10-07: think pink!

I don’t think that I ever really considered myself as a “pink girl” growing up. I didn’t wear it, I didn’t like it and it wasn’t even a real colour as far as I was concerned (it was very pale, washed out red according to young-Jennifer). Pink was forever the colour of cuteness and sweetness and really, to be honest – boring-ness.

I remember this pink t-shirt my mom bought for me when I was 12. It sat on my shelf for months and months. One day I put it on and just as quickly I took it off, throwing it to the back of my closet and replacing it with my stand-by: a blue t-shirt. Blue was the colour of toughness, mischievousness and frankly, it was the colour of boys. Boys were fun. I wanted to be fun. I liked boys. I wore blue. That pink t-shirt was carted off to the Goodwill about ten years later when I finally cleaned out my closet and decided that it was too small, nice colour (!) but too small.

I think some of what changed my mind was the use of pink as the official colour for the fight to end breast cancer. Because of that campaign pink no longer stands for boring. Pink is the colour that stands up and fights against things that are bad. Pink is the colour of strength and determination…and at the same time it is the colour of flexibility and tenderness. It is truly the colour of life.

These adorable cookies combine pink in my favourite colour combination – pairing it with rich chocolate brown. I only wish I could fit into that cute pink t-shirt my mom bought me oh so many years ago…it would go great with my chocolate brown suit…
