2007-05-23: do blondes have more fun?

I had blonde hair from the age of 12 until the age of 16. Then I went red. Then at about age 24 I went blonde again and back to red and back to blonde and back to red. I have had hair in pretty much all shades of the rainbow since I first started to experiment with hair dye (including a hideous green (lasted a day), a gorgeous burgandy (lasted the better part of a year), totally uncharacteristic black (lasted a few months) and even a rather becoming shade I referred to as "Ronald McDonald Red" that stuck for a whole summer). But with which colour did I have the most fun...?

As a red head I feel my most natural. My mom has red hair and I have her skin and her eye colour so red suits me, I think. As a brunette I feel a little mousy but also a little like the sexy school librarian who only lets her hair down and takes off her glasses for someone special. As a blonde I feel very confident, a little more bubbly and as though I might turn a few heads...even if it is more to look at my cuter-that-ever son and not at my hair dye job.

I wonder if it is the same for desserts...? If brownies are simply seen as slightly-passed-their-prime sweets that most people aren't interested in at first glance and blondies are the stunners with the voluptuous, um...flavours that most are interested in because they are right there in front of you. I mean really, there is nowhere to hide flavours in a blondie - perhaps a few nuts but we won't get into that.

The stark whiteness (or off-whiteness) of these bars is both simple and beautiful. But, much like the white serving plates and dishware I keep in my kitchen they also tend to make everything else stand out to the eye. Serve them next to some really delectable raspberry coulis or some decadent hot bittersweet chocolate and they will gladly hand the applause over to the side dish. But serve them on their own and you will wow your guests (or yourself!) with how delcious they are. Not cloyingly sweet as you might expect with the white chocolate as the base, but rich and chewy and mouth-wateringly tasty as a good "brownie" should be.

Also, I have to "pick" a hair colour for myself soon - I'm going to be in a wedding party wearing a gorgeous rust-coloured dress in a few weeks and have no idea what colour my hair should be. If you have any suggestions, I'll happily take them!
