2007-10-23: painting or pastries...?
I was sitting on the floor this morning, painting the mouldings in my dining room and realized that I should be in my kitchen, baking pastries (or cookies, or cakes or muffins or something!).
The thing is, we moved. Yes, S. and I finally bit the bullet and while I was in the hospital we bought our first house. It was a strange situation to be in - purchasing a house that I'd never even been inside of. But the house is perfect and we love the neighborhood and couldn't resist. I finally got to see it when we moved in on October 1st and have grand plans to redo the kitchen as soon as possible.
So we have been a bit busy around here lately. Wee Leith spends his days bouncing around and crawling up and down the stairs. I spend mine trying to get better from an entire summer of being sick and attempting to figure out just how "off" my oven temperature is (at this point I believe it is at least 100 F over...). S. has been busy trying to get quotes on new electrical and also trying to do home handy-work himself.
So instead of a pastry brush in my hand these days it's been a paint brush because I simply couldn't stand the way our ancient, very battered mouldings were looking. But I promise to get into the kitchen again and baking again very soon. As soon as I can get a thermometer for my oven...or else there will be pictures of blackened cookies for you to look at rather than lovely confections.
